Ann-Marie Ricketts​

Executive Director & Founder

Raised by a single mother in Toronto, Ann-Marie was a single mother herself for 18 years. After experiencing a series of personal hardships that left her unable to work and worried about her family’s future, she came up with the idea to organize an awards show for single mothers who had achieved great things. Though the idea for SWIM started on her living room floor, Ann-Marie’s incredible dedication to this organization has helped it to grow and prosper. As a certified life-coach, motivational speaker, and facilitator of Personality Dimensions, she has spent over a decade providing support to single mothers in the London community. In 2012, she was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her significant contributions to social service. In addition to running her own business called “Sweet Life Coaching”. She created a scholarship for single mothers who have achieved remarkable triumphs and named it the “S.M.A.R.T” Scholarship as it provides post-secondary scholarships to deserving moms.

I am a university student studying psychology and I joined SWIM back in 2021 and was lucky to reunite with this beautiful team in 2022, I have a passion for helping single women and mothers alike recognize their worth and celebrate their achievements. I enjoy reading, playing tennis and learning about programming in my spare time.

I joined S.W.I.M. in February 2022. I am a Trinidadian and I enjoy helping others. I am a mommy to a baby girl and I am privileged to have a great support system at home for my baby. Motherhood can he hard and stressful at times and I want to be able to be part of something where I can help mommies and allow them to enjoy being a mommy. I am part of the HR team at S.W.I.M. and my goal is to learn and assist so I can provide support where I can to help single moms. I enjoy being part of empowering women.

I became interested in the volunteering field when I was a college student doing my internship.After my first semester, I volunteered at a summer camp for young adults and found it very rewarding. During this I fell in love with helping out and offering my services and experiences to a greater good and for those in similar situations.The experience directed me to seek out other volunteer opportunities. When I came upon S.W.I.M volunteer group I knew I would be able to flourish and and grown within the community.

 

Mariam Ahmer

Grants & Scholarships

I am a medical student with an interest in program management and development. I joined S.W.I.M. to volunteer as the scholarship coordinator, working to expand the scholarship program and support studying single mothers across Canada. I am grateful to be part of a team of inspiring volunteers at S.W.I.M. who are committed to holistically supporting and empowering single mothers and their families within our local community and beyond.

I joined in May 2022 with the purpose of sharing my knowledge and supporting other women. As a mother, I think of single mothers and their difficulties and wish to support their endeavors. I work in grants and scholarships and I am excited to be able to back this organization and its team.

I am a Social Service worker who Volunteers at Single Women In Motherhood for the Social Media Team and will be helping with some of the program facilitation in the future. I myself am a single mother and have a passion for this organization, what it stands for and all that it does.

Kids Corner London Owner

I newly started Kids Corner London classes in 2020; to allow children an opportunity to play, learn, and socialize with other kids in a safe and convenient online class. 

In every class, I hope to inspire creativity, confidence, imagination and friendships.

I am proud for Kids Corner London to now be partnered

with the Single Women In Motherhood Training Program.

Previously I have had the opportunity to volunteer at S.W.I.M as an Event Coordinator. I greatly enjoy working with all of the very talented volunteers at S.M.I.M.

I am a proud Trinidadian, joined S.W.I.M in November 2021 and volunteering as the Team Coordinator for Mothers in Cleaning (MIC). This organization really captured my interest along with the kind-hearted team members and founder. I am passionate about the support they provide to single mothers. Volunteering provides a healthy boost to my self-confidence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction. I am doing good for single mothers in the community, which provides a natural sense of accomplishment.

I am working as an administrative assistant for the Mothers in Cleaning team! I am a graduate from the University of Western Ontario, completed an honours double major in Criminology and Political Science. I grew very fond of learning about motherhood and parenting from different angles through the Canadian system. I have a huge love for helping those that need it, and by joining S.W.I.M I am given the beautiful opportunity to do so.

I am a university student pursuing interests in humanitarian services and female growth. With SWIM, I found a way of connecting with other great female figures who uplift other women, create opportunities and build a legacy of hope and respect. I am looking forward to see the impact that this organization will have in my ideals and future goals. I am the Marketing Coordinator intern here for Single Women in Motherhood. I am finishing up my undergrad in business at Western University. I was raised by a single parent, which has lead me to have compassion for those in similar situations. I am greatful for the opportunity to work for a nonprofit organization that shares similar values to myself.
